Trying to think what to say, what can you say ? I used to babysit Larry, Michael and Nancy, the cutest , most inquisitive, friendly kids. They took after their parents, Lenny and Judy. I used to joke i married my wife because her name was Nancy. As a parent you can never get over l the heartbreak of losing a child, 20 years ago my son was diagnosed with a almost fatal Sarcoma, thankfully he survived. However the trauma we as parents felt lasted for years and still haunts us. Lenny, and the rest of Michael's family and extended family, keep all of the memories close to your heart and part of him will always be with you.

My deepest sympathy to Michael's family. I was the Transplant fellow from Australia from 2002-2004 and Dr Wachs was integral in teaching me so many things. There is not a week that goes by that I don't think of him and the kindness he showed my family and I when we were a long way from home. To this day I use his funny quotes to teach my junior staff. Love you Michael and thinking of you all, Kellee Slater

What a beautiful service honoring Michael. I had the privilege of being Michael’s Service Leader for many years at Children’s Hospital when he became our chief, and for years before that when he would join us. He was wonderful to work with, brilliant, kind and fun too. He at one point reached out personally to my cousin, who had cancer to talk to her. He was so kind and compassionate to her.
My condolences to your family for this loss. I know he will be greatly missed.

We want to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and co workers of Dr Wachs. Dr. Wachs was my husband ‘s transplant surgeon.in 2001. He saved my husband‘s life. Tim was the 12th Living donor transplant, recipient of Dr. Wachs. As Tim‘s wife I will never forget that day Dr Wachs came out of the surgery room, after 12 hours of surgery, a very long day for all of us. He walked down the aisle way towards the waiting room to find me. I saw him coming, I got up and walked towards him. He didn’t say anything he just came up to me and put his arms around me and we both hugged each other. I was so thankful for his kindness and concern he showed to me and for the care he gave my husband We will never forget him and there is nothing we can do to repay him for what he did for us. Tim is still alive because of the amazing work Dr. Wachs did on Tim’s surgery 24 years ago this May. Dr Wachs changed my view of the medical world. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!. Dr. Wachs we cannot say that enough. Please know that our hearts are broken for your loss and that we are praying for all of you. We are also praying that God will be with and comfort you during this very difficult time. Thank you Dr Wachs for your dedication to mankind and your kindness to Tim and I. We will never forget you and what you did for us. We will see you again someday. Rest in Peace and know that God has held a special place in heaven for you. Much love, Tim and Pamela Fry

I am so deeply sorry to hear this news. Michael did my kidney transplant 7 years ago and I can't think of a kinder, more compassionate doctor than Dr. Wachs. He treated me and my family like his family. He was also fun and lighthearted. He made everything feel so much easier and advocated for me through every step of the transplant process. I can only imagine how many lives he has saved and transformed, not just those of his patients, but his patients' families too. I am so grateful that I knew him and had the privilege of receiving his care. My heart and prayers are with his wife and family. It's hard for us all when the world loses a good one, but especially so for them.
My sincerely heartfelt condolences,
Ashley Howlett

Dr Wachs just did my husband’s liver transplant on December 2. Our minds were put at ease after meeting with him because it was evident we had an expert and were in the best hands. He had the best bedside manner of any doctor or surgeon we’ve had. Such an unimaginable loss. My condolences go out to his wife, daughters, family and colleagues.

I am very saddened to hear this. Dr. Wachs saved my husband’s life in 1999-our daughter Lisa was his live donor AND again he transplanted my husband in 2016. Our family is beyond grateful for him for his expertise for extending my husband Dennis’ life. I want to extend my love and prayers to his family his colleagues and to all those that have a grateful sad heart. I also want to share this poem which is very relevant. My love, prayers and deep gratitude. Ginny Hout-Gibson
