Obituary of Marian Goldhirsch

Marian Goldhirsch, Denver, 100; Was a woman of strong purpose with a tender heart who made friends wherever she went. Born to Louis and Eva Friedman in Salt Lake City in 1924, Marian moved at 11 years old with her parents and older sister Ruth to Denver’s fabled West Side. Shortly after graduating from North High School, Marian met the love of her life, a soldier from New York named Abe at a Valentine’s Day dance at the JCC. Married in Seattle, Washington during World War II, the couple moved back to Denver and raised a family of two children they couldn’t have loved more.

In the 1950’s, Marian forged a career with National Screen Service, a purveyor of motion picture advertising material for movie theaters and newspapers. When the Denver office closed, she had many loyal customers at the boutique dress shops where she worked over the years.

Her hobbies included knitting, bowling in the B’nai B’rith League and playing cards and mahjong. She especially looked forward to twice-yearly trips to Las Vegas, accompanying Abe as they represented the Leonard Joseph Company at the National Association of Surplus Dealers.

Marian always enjoyed Shabbat services and Sunday morning breakfasts with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When Marian’s beloved mother Eva passed away in 1969, Marian said, “My rock is gone.” That same sadness is felt now by the many who knew and loved Marian.
