Obituary of Florence Melnick

Florence Melnick passed away peacefully on November 10th, 2023 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Florie was born August 8th, 1927 in Denver, Colorado.  She grew up a west-sider on 15th and Irving Street near West Colfax. Her parents were William and Ida Rosenfeld Boxer.  There were eight children in the Boxer family -  One sister, Goldie Zerobnick, and six brothers, Sam, Max, Morris, Arthur, Marvin, and Stanley Boxer.

Stanley is the only remaining sibling.

She went to Cheltenham Elementary and Lake Junior High, graduating from North High School and attended University of Colorado, Boulder.

Florie met her husband Barry Melnick at their mutual friends’ wedding. They danced the entire evening together.  They were married four months later, in March, 1950.  Florie and Barry continued to dance together till Barry, at 96, passed away in 2013.

She loved her family, home, and friends dearly.  Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on all. The Boxer family was a large Denver family with the brothers, sister, spouses, and lots of nieces and nephews.  They were close-knit and celebrated holidays and special occasions together.  Florie enjoyed hosting large gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and every Sabbath, welcoming family, friends, and strangers.  Her cooking was exceptional and she was always experimenting with new recipes and themes. She kept careful notes. She knew what she served when and for whom.

In 1962 she built a beautiful custom home in southeast Denver two blocks from her sister.  She took pride in her home and garden and it was the family home for 60 years.

Friendships were for a lifetime, with the longest extending 96 years.  She had many close friends.  People loved Florie.  She was polite, a good listener, appreciative, and a generous friend.

She skied with the JCC Ski bus group well into her seventies.  She attended water aerobics at the JCC for over 40 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and mahjong with the same groups of friends for decades. She was always stylish and loved going to the theatre, movies and opera.

Florie was cheerful and loving to everyone.  The family is grateful that both parents lived to be 96 years old.

She is survived by her three children, Dr. Lorry (Susan) Melnick, Myron (Marcia Fitpzatrick) Melnick, and Jodi (Larry) Ansell.  Grandmother of Lindsey (Dan) Levine, Matthew (Kayt Koczansky) Melnick, Devin Sasso, Amanda (Jacob) Gomberg, Jonathan Ansell.  Great Grandmother of Liam and Emma Levine along with numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
