Obituary of Marilyn Safran

Marilyn Safran was born in Denver in 1937. Her parents were Jacob and Sara Walpin.

She has one younger sister, Roberta Seff.

Marilyn has a son, Stephen Arthur Hellerstein, Jr. (1960) and a daughter, Laurel Nan Hellerstein (1958) both with her first husband, Stephen Hellerstein, who died in 2005. She has one grandson, Maximillian Hellerstein (1995).

Marilyn married Hubert Safran in August of 1978. After 34 years of marriage, Hubert passed away in 2013 from cancer.

The two were very devoted to one another. She often said, he was the love of her life.

Marilyn had a stepson, Howard Safran, a step daughter, Michelle Sacco and a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Sacco.

She practiced clinical psychotherapy for over 40 years after graduating with a MSW in Psychology from the University of Denver in 1973. Marilyn later went on to be a volunteer faculty member and received the Most Distinguished Clinician and Master Scholar award in 2010.

To Marilyn, family was the most important and valuable gift of her life along with her strong connection to Judaism.

Marilyn loved travelling the world. She was especially fond of French culture, the language, and cuisine! She enjoyed taking her family to Broadway shows when she visited New York City.  The Stage Deli was a favorite destination after a matinee. She loved music and loved to dance. Probably her all time favorite was Nancy Sinatra’s, "These Boots are Made for Walking."
