Obituary of Arline Raabe

Arline Raabe 1925-2021

Arline was so loving and so lovable. She adored her children: Dan (Kaoru) Raabe, Thomas (Rachel) Raabe, Mindy (Kelly) Greene, and Andy (Renee) Raabe; grandchildren: Jon (Angela), Dana, Shelly (Gavin), Nick (Iris), Hannah, Ben, Lucca, Izumi, Miwa, Miho, Carlye, Noah; and great grandchildren: Moss, Wren, Dakota, Owen, Monet, Leia, and Ivan. Arline was the sister of Barbara Cook, Michael Ross and Karen Susman. Her nieces and nephews will always remember the wonderful times spent with Aunt Arline.

Arline was, simply put, curious, creative, resilient, artistic, musical, smart and funny. She laughed until the end. She was a beautiful singer, and crooned along with Ella Fitzgerald and Josh Groben. She made you want to sing with her. Arline had a voracious sweet tooth - especially for her sister Karen’s lemon bars - even though she always said, “The last bite tastes just the same as the first.”

She wanted to be an architect - an unconventional ambition for women of her time. Nevertheless she persisted; she designed her house with hand drawn blueprints, impressing the architect.

She was the best listener, even when she struggled to hear, and made you feel seen, even when she couldn’t see. Arline built her life around her devotion to her family.

The funeral will be at Temple Sinai on Friday, June 18, at 2:00pm. In-person attendance is limited to those who are vaccinated. There is a 150 capacity. The service will also be Live Streamed. The Stream can be found on the Temple Sinai website -
