Obituary of Shirley Politzer

Shirley Mae Politzer, of Denver, Colorado passed away on May 31, 2021. A graveside service will be held at Golden Hill Cemetery on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Rabbi Bruce Dollin of the Hebrew Educational Alliance is officiating. Shirley was born in Denver, Colorado to Abraham and Anna Brooks on May 13, 1934. The eldest of three children, Shirley grew up on the westside and attended North High School in Denver, later continuing her education at Metropolitan State College and the Art Students League of Denver. Throughout her adult life, Shirley pursued her many passions, including traveling the world far and wide which provided the backdrop to practice speaking spanish, as well as beautiful scenery for her art. A natural athlete, Shirley enjoyed participating in a variety of sports, from golf to tennis, skiing and hiking to name a few, as well as being an armchair spectator of whatever event was being televised. She developed a love for oil painting, which provided countless hours of enjoyment. Always an avid reader, she had a great selection of books to suggest to her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Stanley Brooks of Denver, three loving children, Carrie (Matthew) Trott of Pierre SD, Marla (Lee) Merkel, of Pueblo CO, and Linden (Mary) Morris, of Erie, CO, as well as her six grandchildren, Kimberly Miles (Mike Chopko), Mattie (Shon) Weaver, Aaron Trott (Dejai Jones), Jenna Rose Trott, Jesse Merkel, Dylan Morris, and five great grandchildren, Jacob, Hailey, Caleb, Vincent and Murray. Shirley is preceded in death by both her parents as well as her sister Merle Cohen. Memorial donations may be made to the Hebrew Educational Alliance, 3600 Ivanhoe St., Denver, CO 80237.
