Obituary of Joe Kaufman

Joe Max Kaufman, longtime owner of the shoe division at Kaufman’s Tall and Big Men’s Shop on S. Broadway, passed away Nov. 5, 2020, in Denver. Rabbi Steven Foster officiated at the private graveside service Nov. 8 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. Feldman Mortuary made the arrangements.
“Joe was a fabulous father, husband and friend,” his wife Glenda Kaufman said. “He was very kind, with a dry sense of humor. People will tell you that he made everyone laugh.”

Mr. Kaufman was born Nov. 19, 1939, in Bastrop, La. The family moved to Denver when he was young due to his asthma.

He earned a degree in pharmacy at CU.

Mr. Kaufman married Glenda Finkelstein on June 29, 1963.

Initially a pharmacist, then a stockbroker, he spent the majority of his career managing the shoe department at Kaufman’s, which was owned and operated by his late brother Fred.

Mr. Kaufman loved fishing, hunting and playing tennis.

He also was an enthusiast of National Council of Jewish Women's Traveling Theater, in which his wife participated.

Joe Kaufman is survived by his wife Glenda Kaufman; children Karen (Dave) Bigelow and Kim (Reid) Maddux; grandchildren Mason Moritzky, Alex and Nate Bigelow; and sisters-in-law Gail Brown Nusinow and Rhona Streit.

Contributions may be to NCJW, Colorado Chapter, or the MS Society.
