Obituary of Floyd Sunshine

Dr. Floyd Sunshine, a second-generation native of Colorado, died peacefully at home on July 2nd. Floyd was Born on March 10, 1935 in Denver. He was the son of William and Blanche Sunshine and grew up on Newton Street on the West Side with his two sisters, Myrna Engbar and Deanie Andersen.

Floyd attended Colfax Elementary, Lake Junior High and graduated from North High in 1953. He then went on to Veterinary school at Colorado AandM in Fort Collins. He became a large animal Veterinarian in Laramie, Wyoming, but then later moved to Platteville, CO after marrying Edythe Goldstein in July of 1960.

In 1964, Floyd and Edythe decided to build a small animal practice in Aurora, CO. Floyd became a highly respected doctor who was extensively involved in the Metro Denver community. In addition to his small animal practice that he served for 45 years, he provided veterinary services to underserved and low-income individuals who will never forget his generosity and easy smile. He also volunteered at the Sky High Hope Camp for kids with Cancer and The Ronald McDonald House with his grandson, Jake.

Floyd had many interests including horticulture and Bonsai trees, travel throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia, photography and music. He loved the mountains of Colorado and was an avid outdoorsman who was an expert alpine and Nordic skier, experienced backpacker and cyclist.

In January of 2019 he lost his beloved Edythe. He is survived by his two sisters, his sons, David and Vic and his grandsons, Jake, Ben and Jack.

Private Graveside service, Monday July 6th at 2:00PM. Public livestream will be available on Zoom.
